You bought a puppy and today is the day. You will be going down to the pet shop to collect it. For me, you have just made the best decision in your live.
Whether you are a first-time owner or already one, feeding is the most important and yet mundane thing that you will be doing daily. Remember that the long-term health and well-being of the dog very much depend on how much exercise they are getting, what diet are they on, and what are they being fed?
The most rewarding time is feeding time. Enjoy it.
How do I choose?
There are so many different types of dog food out there. You may have also heard from peers or read from some blogs about what is best. Some believe kibbles are best way to go and some on a raw diet.
Even we are in this business. There is no one perfect formula that suits all dogs and owners alike. Some may be due to medical reason and some simply does not like the taste or texture of the food. What one dog’s food is another dog’s trash.
Obviously, homemade diet (cooked) is our preference. It has been proven that feeding healthy clean food has long term health benefits. Fewer visits to the vet.
Benefits of homemade diet (cooked):-
- Cooking a meat or vegetables kills bacteria. It thus reduces the chance of bacteria infection.
- Meats that are cut to chewable size help promotes chewing.
- 65-80% of water in the meal alone.
- Fibers are retained in vegetables that promotes healthy bowel movement.
- Variety
This seems to be the obvious choice, but it has its drawback.
- It’s takes some effort
- Time consuming
- It does not have all the nutrients that is needed such as calcium, omega 3 etc. to achieve a balance diet.
